Elijah Morton Lay's The Smack Down In Darlington, SC

Darlington, S.C. - On Friday the 22nd during Darlington's pro test session, Elijah Morton of Jacksonville, N.C. unloaded a bomb by posting a 6.543 on his shake down pass. Later in the day he
returned to clock a 6.552 @ 211.00. After the first two day's of testing the closest competitor was a 6.57 showing that the team has really been working hard after the season ending World Finals in Rockingham. Elijah explains, "This past year has really been a roller coaster ride for us in the new Mustang.

After enjoying a great rookie season in 2001 by finishing 8th in points, our sophomore year has been anything but that. We built a new car for the 2002 season but through out the year we really never got a handle on it until the last few races when we did muster-up two runner-up's. After the season ended crew chief Jeff Dobbins and I put our heads together and we changed the entire suspension on the car.

When we unloaded the car in Darlington we were only going to make some 330' hits because that is where we have been struggling but the car felt so good on that pass I took it to the strip. The numbers were 1.002,2.761,4.223.The only thing I regret was taking the #1 engine out for Saturday's session which proved to be the best conditions of the weekend. With being three hundredths quicker than the other guy's we may have seen the classes first 6.40 pass. I think with the results from testing we will be in great shape for a championship run in 2003."
