First Event In The Books, No Win But Positive
Attitudes Heading Into Home Track - Rockingham
MARION, TX
- After a one week event rain delay, Elijah
Morton & Jeff Dobbins of Morton Bros.
MotorSports gave it their best at this past
weekends Amaile Oil IHRA Texas Nationals
presented by Ancira.
Elijah qualified fifth with a best of 6.623
@ 210.93 mph while Dobbins filled the
thirteenth
position with a 6.646 @ 211.26 mph.
Morton, piloting the team Mustang would
prevail over Floyd Cheek in round one with a
near 200 ft. wheel-standing 6.606 @ 210.97 mph
blast taking out Cheek's 6.620 loosing effort.
The 6.606 elapsed time posted would stand
throughout all of Sunday's eliminations as the
quickest run all day! Dobbins would not be so
lucky as tire shake slowed his performance to
a 6.713 @ 210.67 mph in round one allowing
event winner Rick Jones to progress into round
two.
In round two, Jones would again meet another
Morton car, this time squaring off with
Elijah. Jones took a starting line hole shot
win over Morton, some 14 inches of victory on
the big end. Morton ran a 6.609 but lost due
to the starting line difference gathered by
Jones.
Some of that all important race day data
collected will be applied at the upcoming IHRA
Spring Nationals at "The ROCK", March 28-30th.
The team will be testing Dobbins' Ford Probe
before Rockingham in Darlington, SC in an
effort to correct this tire shake phenomenon.
